WebP Converter
Convert to WebP with a live quality comparison, or back to JPG/PNG for picky platforms. Batch in, zip out.
WebP both ways, with your eyes on the result
WebP is the pragmatic modern format: 25–35% smaller than JPG at matched quality, transparency support like PNG at a fraction of the weight, and universal browser support since 2020. If you run a website, converting your images to WebP is one of the few performance wins that costs nothing visually — when the quality is set right. That's why this converter is built around a live comparison: the slider shows your original and the converted result at identical zoom while the output size updates as you drag the quality control. You judge with your eyes, not a guess.
It converts the other way too. Plenty of software still refuses WebP uploads — older CMSs, print services, government forms — so dropping WebP files in and getting universally-accepted JPG or PNG back is just as common a job.
Quality guidance from real use
- 80% — visually lossless for photos; the default for a reason.
- 65–75% — fine for content images at typical display sizes; significant extra savings.
- 90%+ — only for images that will be zoomed or edited again.
- PNG output — lossless; pick it when converting WebP screenshots or graphics back for editing.
Batch handling works like everything on this site: unlimited files, per-file progress and savings, single files download directly, multiple files zip up — all processed on your device with nothing uploaded. One honest caveat: Safari can decode WebP but won't encode it, so on Safari this page converts from WebP but needs Chrome, Edge or Firefox to convert to it. We tell you on the page instead of silently producing PNGs.
Common questions
Is WebP always smaller?
For photos, almost always. For sharp-edged graphics, lossless PNG occasionally wins — the live size readout shows you immediately.
Does converting lose transparency?
WebP and PNG keep alpha. JPG doesn't support it — transparent areas are flattened to white.
